How We Started

In August of 2010 we met a man named Randy Gather in Belize. He told our group of the needs in the country of Belize. That is when our group decided to adopt Belize as a country.

Our group traveled to Belize in January of 2011 to survey some possible project locations for our group to participate in.  Ben Marts our International Project President traveled with a group of 10 others traveled to many villages around Belize with a professor that knows the area well.

This was the group that traveled in January 2011. This picture was taken on one of the days they visited More Tomorrow, Belize.

For our current project we are traveling to the village of More Tomorrow, Belize.  More Tomorrow had been requesting a water tower from the government for many years. The size and scope of the project seemed that it was small enough that our group could pick it up as our first international project!

The closests well to the village is becoming a problem for its people.  When the group went to visit More Tomorrow in January they were able to test the water and document this.

This water is saturated with Iron which means that it contains too much iron.  You can see here that it makes the water look some what cloudy.  The purpose of us taking on this project is to build the Water Tower in order to help the village build a better water system for the people.

Here are some of our students performing water tests on site.

Our group is currently designing two water towers for the project. The first one is made of steel and the second of concrete. We plan on sending both projects out for bid in early November, from there we will select the best design based on costs and contractors recommendations. We have commitments from the government to run water lines from the tower to key points throughout the village as long as we are able to finish the project before the year is out!
